Contemporary Dance started in the 20th century when a US dancer wanted to incorporate other styles of dance into her ballet routine. She added elements from Jazz, Acrobatics, Rock and Roll, Hip-Hop and Modern Dance. All of the styles were closely linked to music to inspire movements to express the strong emotions of the choreographer.
